Week 4 - A General Update

500 miles, 500 miles... We've traveled over 500 miles as of today (Friday morning), and gone through Minnesota and Iowa, and are now alternating between Illinois and Missouri, depending on which side of the river. Last night was Quincy Il.

We've gone through 20 locks, each with their own personality, and have enjoyed talking with the lockmasters and the crew. We are such a distinctive boat and occasionally end up as a tourist attraction. We meet a lot of interesting people who share a love of the river and the lore of the river. Charlie comes to mind. He owns 3 small islands just upstream of Keokuk, Iowa and will be gifting them to Western Illinois University for a field station because "It's the right thing to do for the River,"
