Since counseling and psychotherapy, coaching and consulting are such personal experiences, choosing a therapist or coach is an important and sometimes intimidating process. With that in mind, I want to tell you what you can expect if you come to see me. I intend my office and presence to be safe so that clients can feel as comfortable as possible.

I have been a licensed psychologist since 1975, receiving my Ph.D from Northwestern University in 1973. I have maintained a practice of psychotherapy and counseling since that time. For most of these thirty plus years I was also an administrator, clinical supervisor, teacher, and consultant.

I practiced in Washington, D.C. before coming to Portland in 1993 to be Executive Director of the Samaritan Counseling Center. In 2005 I left administrative work to expand my clinical and consulting work and to develop a coaching practice focusing on seeking meaningful life at times of transition, especially midlife and retirement.

I invite you to visit the links above to learn more about my philosophy, details of my therapy and coaching practices, and other elements of my work.

I am well-educated, trained, and credentialed. I have varied and extensive experience. I balance care and thoughtfulness with creativity and enthusiasm. I am positive, optimistic, and hopeful.

I invite you to have a session with me. If it feels helpful, we can continue. If it does not feel like a good fit to you, you should not continue, and I can help you find someone else. If you have questions not answered here, please call.
